The ferry, the house and the horse

From St Mary’s the two of us and John and Nancy took the ferry to Cumberland Island. Nathanael Greene bought land on the island in 1783 and his widow Catherine Greene built a four story tabby home named Dungeness. In 1884 Thomas Carnegie (brother of Andrew)with his wife Lucy began building on the foundation of Dungeness. The island is home to herds of wild horses and is where John Kennedy Jr got married.
