Yesterday we decided to drive to Pensacola to see what has changed on the way up and back and to visit the Naval Air Station Exchange and stop at the mall in Sandestin on the way back. It was 247 miles round trip. We stopped at the Panama Cafe on the west side of  Panama City for breakfast on the way there. $3.99 for two eggs, a short stack of pancakes and coffee or tea. The pancakes were huge. On the way up we noticed that Dan’s Bar-B-Q(we enjoyed several meals there) was now an empty lot. We had dinner at Goatfeathers in Santa Rosa Beach. $10.95 for early bird specials.  Wouldn’t get the gumbo again but the rest of the meal was superb.

Our winter home

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

img_2101.jpgOur winter home is a 31 foot Golden Falcon 5th Wheel Trailer. Quite a step up from the 16 ft Terry that we bought in New Mexico about 1972. If I learned anything in the Marine Corps, it is that you do not have to practice to be miserable. I spent enough time wet and cold and did not enjoy it at all. If we were going camping I wanted to be able to turn on heat or air conditioning and I wanted running water and if it rained I wanted to be able to look out at it from a warm dry place. This trailer has it all. More on the inside later.

It is cold in Florida but our home is warm

2 Jan 2008
I thought that Florida was warm. Last night it got down to 34 degrees. We turned the heat off when we went to bed. By putting poncho liners between the sheets we were very warm in bed. Tonight it is supposed to go down to the teens. I think we will leave the heat on tonight. With a hard freeze advisory all campers will let there water drip all night to prevent freezing.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

For my first post Happy New Year seems to be enough. Besides we stayed up past our usual bedtime last night and the Bowl games are good.
